The Full Story

Formerly Known as Johnson Quail

Johnson Quail has been producing high-quality Coturnix quail since 1995 in Owatonna, Minnesota. Founder Roger Johnson's lifelong career in the grain and animal feed business led him into raising quail — first as a hobby, and later into a full-time occupation.

In June of 2020, the business was purchased by Kevin Steuck, who had worked alongside Roger for 12 years. Kevin knew the birds, knew the customers, and knew what made Johnson Quail special. The transition was seamless — same facility, same standards, same commitment to quality.

Today, NorthStar Quail is a small, family-owned operation. Kevin works alongside one full-time employee and a part-time student, with everyone involved in every aspect — from the layers to hatching to shipping. It's a hands-on approach that ensures every bird meets the standard our customers expect.
